Chemical filter

Bemotrizinol

Modern photostable UVA+UVB filter with very low skin absorption. Australia allows 10%. FDA added it as GRASE at 6% in June 2026.

Bemotrizinol is a large-molecule triazine filter with dual peaks around 310 nm and 343 nm. It is intrinsically photostable and also helps stabilise avobenzone. It offers one of the best current combinations of broad-spectrum performance and low systemic exposure.

Australia allows 10% in listed therapeutic sunscreens. The US FDA added it to the OTC sunscreen monograph by final order on 10 June 2026 at up to 6% for adults and children from 6 months — the first new US monograph sunscreen active since the late 1990s. In a maximal-use trial at 6%, plasma levels rarely exceeded FDA’s 0.5 ng/mL threshold.

It has been permitted in Europe since 2000 and is widely used in Asia and Australia. No major current human endocrine or cancer signal. A strong first-choice organic filter.
